UAS gets new seed packing machine
University of Agriculture Sciences (UAS), Raichur, has introduced an advanced seeds treatment and packing unit which will treat and dry seeds after mixing chemicals and also packet them. Officials have now fixed the cost of treating and packing seeds at Rs. 175 per quintal.
The UAS has purchased the machine from a Hyderabad company at a cost of Rs. 49.5 lakh in January under the seed hub programme of the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR).
Normally, farmer manually mix fungicides with seeds before sowing. There will be a possibility of developing health issues if farmers do not take precautions while mixing the chemicals.
Another problem of mixing manually is that the seeds might not bud properly due to lack moisture in the seeds.
“The machine will treat, dry and pack seeds systematically and scientifically,” Basavegowda, Special Officer (Seeds) of UAS, told The Hindu .
